The Holidays Are Coming Up

We just celebrated Thanksgiving here. I hope you all had a great one at your house. The next holiday coming up for us in my house is Christmas. We will be having a slim Christmas here this year. So I am having to go as cheap as I can on gifts by cutting a lot of people off of my list. My husband comes from a large family and we can not give everyone something this year so we had to decide who gets and who doesn't this year.

One of the ways that I am saving this year is shopping at the Salvation Army Store. I have gone to my local Salvation Army store and have gotten several things for Christmas. I found several pairs of pants that were from Old Navy that looked brand new. My girls wanted an Easy Bake Oven I went in the other day and they had one for $4.99 so I picked it up. I will check again this week to see what else they have that I might want to get for Christmas.

We also decided to get only my Mother-in-Law and Stepfather Christmas gifts. We have also decided not to by any of the siblings except for one of my brothers who has no one to give him anything. Out of the hundreds of nieces and nephews we have decided to give only to a select few which amounts to nine nieces and nephews. I have a cousin that is mentally handicap and we will get him something for Christmas as well.

How do you save on your holiday shopping.

How to Save at Rite Aid

If you are just started out on saving money Rite Aid is a great store to shop at. Rite Aid has several ways to save at their stores. You can save from using coupons, to using their UP Rewards, to watching Video Values, and their monthly rebate offers. I will tell you about those ways in this blog post.

The first items is using coupons. Rite Aid takes manufacturing coupons that you can use on their products in the store. Rite Aid also issues coupons in their ads for use in their stores only. Rite Aid takes both a manufacturing coupon as well as their store coupons on the same product. You will want to match your coupons to the sales in the store to maximize you savings. I would also print out Rite Aid coupon policy and keep a copy of it in your files to take to the store, since some stores do not seem to know their coupon policy.

The second item is using UP Rewards. This is new at Rite Aid so they are still working out the kinks for it. The way it works is if you buy an item that offers an Up Reward it prints out at the bottom of your receipt. Example is say Crest Toothpaste is on sale for $2.99 and when you buy you get a $2.00 UP Rewards. What happens is you pay $2.99 for the toothpaste but at the bottom of your receipt you have a UP Reward for $2.00 that you can use on your next purchase. What you want to do is the next time you are shopping at Rite Aid you use that UP Rewards on your purchases to get your cost down even lower. You can use coupons and other UP Rewards on your purchases to get more UP Rewards, this is calling rolling. This take time to build up but eventually you will have enough UP Rewards to use that with coupons and UP Rewards you are just paying taxes at the register.

The third item is watching Video Values videos at Rite Aid. These are videos that you can watch about products. When you watch these videos you get credits for them as well as coupons. Once you reach 20 credits you get an extra coupon for $4 off of $20. These coupons are usually good for two months, so the coupons you earn in October are good through November. You can combine these coupons with manufacturing coupons as well as the UP Rewards.

The last item is Rite Aid monthly Single Check Rebates. They have select items that if you buy them during the month you can get part of or all of your purchase price back. When you combine the rebate items with sales and coupons you can at times get items for free and occasionally even make money off of the items. You do not have to mail in for these rebates either. You are able to submit your receipts online at Rite Aid's site. Then at the end of the rebate period you request your check. I usually get my check within two weeks of submitting them online.

With all of these tools you can save even more money when you shop at Rite Aid. Just remember it takes a lot of work and time to really start seeing the rewards of these savings, but they are well worth.

Happy October

Well it is October now and I can not believe it is two months until Christmas. The past week I had surgery to have my gall bladder removed. We are also getting ready for Halloween and then Christmas after that.

So let me tell you away I know on how to save on costumes. I look at the ones that are on clearance at the end of the Halloween for the next year. I got my youngest costume that way this year. My 10 year old costume I am still looking for one. We might check the local Salvation Army for hers or pay full price eek. If I feel like it before Halloween I might hit a couple of yard sales for one.

We are also planning to do a Halloween party here at home for the kids instead of Trick or Treating. We live so far from town that I hate having to drive there and back and waste the gas on drive from neighborhood to neighborhood. I figure I will make up some gift bags of candy for the kids from some of the candy that is on sale at Rite Aid this week. I might come up with some games for the kids so they could win extra treat bags of candy. I am still working on the idea. I know that there will be about 6 kids.

My mothers church is also doing something on October 29th for the kids. There will be games and trick or treating in the parking lot. It is a safe way for kids to go to trick or treating. We know most of the people at the church since I grew up with most of the members of the church.

What are you doing for Halloween? Please let us know.

Also if you know of anyone who has products that they sell and would like to have it reviewed and possible giveaway done on it please let me know by contacting me at dragonfairymom@gmail.com. I would be glad to do it.

So go over to Rite Aid to watch videos and print out the coupons you would like to use.

Free Gain Dish Soap

If you still have some of the coupons that came out a few weeks ago you can still get some free Gain. Walmart carries the small bottles of Gain Dish Soap for $0.97 each. You can use the coupon on any size so with the small bottle you will get $0.03 overage on each bottle. I have been going in and buying a couple of bottles at a time. I have also giving away a couple of coupons to people in the store who were buying some dish soap. So far we have gotten about 20 bottles in my house. I need to use the last of these coupons before the end of the month before they expire. I might end up giving some of these as Christmas gifts to family members who I know can benefit from them.

Wow it has been a while

I can not it has been over three months since I last posted here. I moved to a new place again over the summer and the kids have started school back.

I am also going to be having surgery in 2 weeks. Which can cost a lot of money these days. I do not qualify for Medicaid because we make to much money and I have no health insurance through work. So how do I get my medical care some through debt but mostly through a clinic that has sliding fee scale for their patients.

Where I live there is a teaching hospital nearby and several clinics that has lots of migrant worker as patients. They offer their patients a sliding fee that is based on what you make. I pay $25 for each visit to my regular doctor. They also have specialist that work with them who also takes their patients on a sliding fee scale and that is $30.

Now my clinic also has a pharmacy that also works on a sliding fee scale as well. I can get my medicines their at a reduce cost. For example my husband takes a cholesterol medicine that cost over $200 at a big name pharmacy and at our clinic we get it for $5.

So if you do not have insurance at all, check around where you are at and see if there is a clinics that offers a sliding fee scale program. It can end up saving you a lot of money in the long run and help you get your medicines and medical care that you need.

Saving on Clothes in a Small Town

So some of you are wondering on how to save money on clothes in a small town. Well it is easy to do. There are several ways to do it yard sales, Salvation Army, stores in general that sale clothes and Consignment Shops. Now I only have Walmart to shop for clothes here in town or I can drive 20 minutes to the next big town to shop for clothes. So I will tell you my main way of buying clothes here.

Well my favorite place to buy clothes is the Salvation Army store. My work is in the shopping center as my Salvation Army Store. So I can run in anytime I am at work and see what is on sale that day. I buy mine and the kids clothes there all of the time. Just the other day I got me 3 pairs of pants, 2 tank tops, a skirt, 2 shirts and a coffee pot all for about $16.00. I do not buy my husband clothes there that often since he has clothes in our closet from 2 Christmas ago with tag still on them. I also donate clothes back to them when we no longer need them or tired of wearing them. Also I get books from there all of the time. If you do not have a Salvation Army store look for a Goodwill Store or any other Thrift store.

The next is yard sales. My area has them on Saturdays around here. You can find clothes on them as well. It is a hit and miss on them mostly. For one week you might find clothes you need or the next week you might not find what you need at all. Also at yard sales you can find other things at them such as toys, books, household items and furniture. So check out your local yard sales.

The other places is your stores. I have Walmart here in town and it has a small selection in it. I check the clearance racks a lot there. I do drive to the larger towns at times so I can go to Target, JcPenny, Sears and other big retailers. When I go to those stores I always check the clearance racks. We can wear short sleeves here pretty much year round. There is about 2 months of the year the long sleeves are needed though.

The last place is Consignment stores. I do not have any in the town that I live in now. There are some in the larger towns though. I have been only to one of them but it closed down. I would like to go to one again but I have not found one that is close to home.

I hope one of these ideas help you to save on buying clothes for your family. Please leave me a comment on your ways of saving money on clothes for your family.

Dawn Money Back Guarantee

There is a money back guarantee on the new Dawn Plus with Vinegar Alternative.

What to do with expired coupons

So what do you do with your expired coupons that you have. Well there are several options for you to choose from. From throwing them into the trash to send to troops overseas. It all depends what you want to do with them.

Most people will throw them way into the trash can but there is another place to toss them. That is into your recycle bind since it is paper and it can be recycled. If you do put in the recycle make sure to remove any staples if you used any at all to hold the coupons together to clip them also no paper clips either.

Another way to get rid of them and be friendly to the environment is to pass them on to someone who can use them. If you know someone stationed overseas they could use the coupons at the base. Also some stores take expire but you should ask your store if they do take expired and for how long after the date can they be. I do not have a store that takes expire. There is a place on the web that has military bases that you can adopt to send your expired coupons to http://www.ocpnet.org/default.htm.

So here are a few options for you chose one or do them all to pass along those coupons or to recycle that paper so it can be used again in the future.

Coupons.com

On the website http://www.coupons.com there are some new coupons to print out. There are several coupons for toys and games to print out as well as the other usual coupons that they have for you to print out and use.

How I Organize My Coupons

So you would like to know how I organize my coupons. I have tried several methods but this it the method that works for me. I prefer the plastic check organizers you can get at Wal Mart for about $4.00 each. I have four of them that I use. I find that four of them is what I needed to make sense for me to have the categories that I use. So I am going to break it down to you on what I do. Also what works for me might not work for you. I will also mention the others method here as well.

So with my four holders I have them broken out to three main categories for coupons and one that is for refund forms. So the pink holders is for food coupons such as cereals, snacks, drinks, frozen food, canned foods, boxed foods, condiments, baking, bread and rolls, dairy, meat items, and produce. The blue is non-food items, first aid, medicine, make up, cleaners, plastic and paper, feminine products, soaps and shampoos, dental, shaving and deodorant, electronics, clothing and miscellaneous. One of the purple holders holds all of my store specific coupons and restaurant coupons as well as pet food coupons. The other purple holder has my refund forms by expiration date. I also have a plastic shoe box that I put the coupons in that I will not use and those are organized by circular and date. I do not have baby coupons since my youngest child is 7 years old so I do not need them.
Another method that people use is a coupon binder method. I have tried this method and did not work for me but it could work for you. This method involves you getting a zipper binder about 4" wide. You would use baseball card holder pages and index dividers. You will trim your coupons to find into the slots. A lot of coupons will fit in with no problem but some you do have to fold some. The plus side with this method you can see what you have in one glance at the store with the binder and not have to look through a bunch of coupons to find just one.
Another method is using a coupon box. You would set up sections in it for your different categories like I do with my plastic organizers. You can get a nice one at Refund Cents, the link for the site is on the side of my blog.
Another method is not clipping at all until you need the coupons. You would clip the coupon only when you need it when you look at your ads for that week. But that defeats the purpose when should always carry your coupons with you when you go anywhere. You never know when you are going to come across a good deal.
I hope some of the ideas help you out. You do not have to use my method or anyone that I listed use what works for you. Also if you use another method that is not listed leave me a comment about the one that you use.

SOBE Water Coupon

SOBE Water has issued a coupon that you can print out and it is Buy One Get One Free. So here is the link for you http://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?tqnm=za2ddan9999255&bt=wi&o=61474&c=SL&p=qYvSZD52 I hope some of you can use this coupon. I just printed one out for myself so hurry and get yours before there is no more.

Where do I find coupons you ask?

I know some of you who are new to the world of coupons are wondering where can you find them. Let me tell you right here where I find my coupons.

The first place I look is in the Sunday paper. Also if you paper doesn't have a Sunday paper, like my local paper, check Saturdays or Fridays. Yes I know in the paper there is just one insert but if you purchase more than one paper you get more coupons. Also ask your family members to save you there Sunday paper for you so you can get the coupons from it.

The second place is in the stores. I know in most of my grocery stores there are those little coupon blinkie machines on the shelves they have coupons in them take one if you think might use it. Also on the shelves or on displays there are tear pads for products you can take one of those. If you need more than one coupon take the amount you need. You also do not have to use them at the store you find them in either you can use them at other stores as well.

Another place is on eBay. You can buy coupons for specific products that you want or just a general potluck. When you bid on an auction of coupons you are not bid on the coupons but the persons time for collecting and sending the coupons to you. If you go to eBay look for me there with the user name susanandrichie. I sell and buy coupons on eBay all of the time. This is how I pass on the coupons that I am not going to use.

Another place to get coupons is from the coupon.com, smartsource.com. They have coupon that you can print out and use at the stores. When you print out these coupons you can not copy them, it is against the law to do that. Also go to the products home page to get them as well.

Another way to get coupons is ordering from a supplier online. There are several of them out there. I have used The Coupon Master. There is also The Coupon Clippers, and Coupon Carry Out.

Also another great way is join a yahoo group. I am in 2 groups that I love a lot. We have trains and swaps with our coupons. I pass on coupons that I can not use and get some that I can use. Here is a link to the groups. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/couponfriendsarefun and http://groups.yahoo.com/group/momstimeoutcorner

Another thing that I use to get coupons that I want is a refund magazine that has been published for 30 years now. The magazine has a print issue as well as online site. Here is a link to it
http://refundcents.com/index.asp?RefID=DDDZ I have read this magazine for years and have loved reading it from cover to cover.

I hope some of these tips help you find some coupons that you can use. Also leave a comment and let me and others know of ways that you find your coupons.

Maybelline Mascara at Rite Aid Good Buy

I stopped in at my local Rite Aid today. Well this week at Rite Aid they have Maybelline makeup at 40% off. Well between the sale price, coupon and rite aid rebate I got it for basically $0.11. Here is how I did it.

I choose the cheapest mascara they had that is normally priced at $5.19 each. Well with the 40% off it came to $3.11. Well in the RedPlum for January 10, 2010 there was a coupon $1.00 for any one Maybelline Mascara that expires on February 15, 2010. So that brought the mascara to $2.11. In the Rite Aid rebate flier it is listed for $2.00 back and it is only good for this week. So this made it $0.11 before tax.

Welcome here

Hi let me introduce myself. My name is Susan and I live in a small rural town in North Carolina. I am married and a mother to four kids ranging from 17 to 7 years old. In my small town I only have Food Lion, Walmart, Family Dollar, Dollar General, Rite Aid and Piggly Wiggly. I mostly shop at Food Lion since my husband works there. I will be posting the sales I can find that will save me money and my trip into the world of saving money so I can stay home with my kids.

I will also post some links to reward sites that I have used and have earned on that have paid out to me. I will also post some samples that I find online as will as for refund forms that can be printed off that you can send in to get either money or items. So I hope that you will enjoy this blog and keep coming back to it.
